I had the opportunity to open a window to give "Visibility to the Invisible".
The objective of my mission: to provide step-by-step support in the discovery of photography for children with motor or cerebral disabilities.
As part of the creation of my project in Sri Lanka, I had planned and designed in advance a number of workshops that I wanted to implement to introduce photography to the children of the ECSAT association located in southern Sri Lanka, in Galle and Matara.
The objective is to run all the workshops, proceeding step by step, practicing varied and artistic learning with the use of collage and pastels, among other things.
From the very first workshop, I was struck by the extreme attention these children paid to This learning experience, and therefore, inspired by their behavior and creativity, led me to decide that very evening to modify all my workshops.
And so, guided by their enthusiasm, I had the immense joy of seeing that they had quickly become interested in and taken ownership of photography, giving it a strong artistic dimension.
All their works demonstrated how this mode of expression could stimulate their choices, facilitate their creativity, allow them to communicate through art, and teach them to Getting to know each other better.
The first workshops, including the discovery of the Instax Polaroid camera, were a real revelation! Taking photos and the immediacy of the result gave them pleasure, stimulated their inner emotions, and provoked reactions beyond traditional communication.
The children were able to work on different aspects, allowing for a sensitive approach to the realities around them. Thus, each workshop required a degree of reflection to connect them to their environment, decorate it, personalize it, and then give themselves over to their imagination, their reverie.
Some examples of themes chosen for the workshops:
- Self-image at Through photography: work on self-portraiture and its representation by the child, using photos and pastels.
- The supervisor as seen by the child - Objective: to highlight the dedication of the teams.
Choice of object and free expression of the child's photographic representation of the supervisor. The artwork is then personalized using pastels.
- Work on the 5 senses through photography how photography can suggest and awaken emotions around these 5 senses.
This adventure was a magnificent and enriching experience, incredible and touching with these wonderful children, brimming with the joy of life. With enthusiasm and determination, they demonstrated great curiosity and applied themselves to listening to and respecting instructions, understanding the technical aspects of the camera, and working on photographic research.
Over a period of one month, I had the immense pleasure of witnessing significant progress with beautiful photographic compositions. And to continue this positive momentum, I am starting a new project by preparing a second episode of this adventure with the aim of deepening the children's learning, strengthening their self-confidence, and helping each of them develop on their personal journey.
I would like to I sincerely thank, on behalf of all the children, parents, supervisors, and myself, the Inside Out team for their unwavering support, which allowed us to bring this first experience to a wonderful conclusion. All the children felt valued and proud in front of the exhibition of their portraits; this event was a truly wonderful reward for everyone. Thank you!
Thus, we had the opportunity to open a first window of "Visibility onto the Invisible."
