For a few years now, youth in Toulouse have exceeded all hopes in their commitment against climate change. Since 2018, Climate Walks have multiplied around the world and in the streets of the Pink City.
At the same time, Greta Thunberg's commitment and her call for Strike for Climate have given a voice to this anxious but hopeful Youth on all continents.
In this context, the Gaïa Association in Sciences Po Toulouse and myself decided to celebrate young people who chose to change the system, not the climate. 57 portraits were taken during the March 15th 2019’ International Strike for Climate in Toulouse.
That day, young people and students from all schools and universities in and around the city showed hope, concern, sometimes sadness but always a strong and unwavering will to act. Their expressions translate the paradox of our time, between unconditional hope in a brighter future and frustration due to a blatant destruction of our environment and our health.

The ecological and democratic awakening of the French and International youth we are experiencing must be highlighted and celebrated all around. For the first time since the strikes of May 1968, French students are once again at the heart of a massive social and political renewal reflecting a global desire for change.

This exhibit intends to pay tribute to all of these people on the pictures and many others who are willing to contribute to a worldwide movement towards a better quality of life and a safe future for all.

In recent years, Toulouse youth have exceeded all hopes in their commitment to the climate. Since the summer of 2018, Marches pour le Climat have multiplied in the streets of the Ville Rose as in several other French cities.
Greta Thunberg's commitment and her call for the International Climate Strike have given a voice to these young people affected by the climate issues of their generation and future generations. For these reasons, a few students from Sciences Po Toulouse have decided to show the faces of these young people who are acting to change the system, not the climate. 57 portraits were taken during the International Climate Strike on March 15, 2019 in the city of Toulouse and come to pay tribute, two years later, to these first demonstrations led by young people.
A youth from all walks of life is depicted through these faces sometimes full of hope, other times more doubtful. They reflect all the ambivalence of our time, between hope for a better future and undisguised anger towards a system built on inequalities and a flagrant destruction of our environment and our health.

The eco-citizen awakening of French and global youth that we are currently experiencing must be promoted by all means and affect all of society. For the first time since the events of May 1968, French students are again at the heart of a social and political renewal and their wish is to produce an equally strong impact on a global scale.

This exhibition therefore aims to pay tribute to the people you see in these images as well as to many others, who choose to engage in a global movement for a desirable and viable future.
