The NHS was created from the ideal that quality healthcare should be available to all.
It was launched by the then Minister for Health, Aneurin Bevan, on July 5 1948 and was based on three core principles:
that it meet the needs of everyone
that it be free at the point of delivery
that it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay
We believe this Government's policies of marketisation, privatisation and funding cuts are fatally undermining these principles and we are demonstrating our opposition to this.
