I have learned that I can succeed in academics and that I have several
strengths and interests that will carry me through life…dyslexia is
something that I live with every day. I have come to embrace it as well as
helping others do the same. I have begun speaking and advocating on our
behalf. Part of my artwork this year has involved incorporating this
passion. I literally could not see myself doing anything else other than
spending hours upon hours working on my artwork and empowering others.
In the spring of 2012, I went to a lecture at Vassar College about learning
disabilities and democracy in education given by a man named Sam Chaltain.
At the end of the lecture he said we all need to start asking the question,
WHAT IF.............? With the idea that nothing new and innovative ever
happens without taking that leap of faith.
