"There has been education fever for a long time in Korea. This is because education record has been used as the only tool for society to evaluate people. For example, universities select applicants with their grades and companies select those who graduate from top ranking universities. Under this educational system with current ways of assessment, students are getting forced to study for high-stake exams such as SAT. Thus, students are becoming so passive at schools that they do not initiate their own projects with their interests.
I, as a teacher at an elementary school, wanted to deviate their attention from studying major subjects to working on hands-on projects. Thus, I opened a club and discussed with students what they are interested in. From the several discussions, we have had six projects they decided to participate in, and they are going to present their stories at TEDxKids event on December 22nd, next Saturday. At the TEDxKids event, we want to show the power of kids, their potentials. We believe that the Insideout Project will be a good presentation of this action."
