For 15 years, the People's Art Project has traveled to even the most remote corners of the world as one of JR's simplest but most radical ideas: helping people stand up for what they care about, one portrait at a time. What began as an experiment has grown into a global movement, a living, breathing reminder that we can be part of something that expands beyond ourselves.

The Inside Out Project moves from the individual to the collective, from the local to the global, from a single portrait to a wall of thousands, because it was always about more than "I." Beyond it is the person beside you, to see them before you judge them, to love them before you know them. I see you. I love you. I hear you. I understand you. Through each Action, the magic of the Project is found in the pauses taken by passersby and the conversations between strangers who met along the way. With every story that sits beside your own, each face makes the whole picture possible.

After so many years, we are still posing the same question… Can art change the world? What is it like when you experience art with more than just the self?

This global tour through New York, Paris, and Rio is an invitation to be curious about your neighbors, your community, the strangers who share your street, even the people across the globe, and discover what it feels like to be together for a better tomorrow.

The tour’s first stop takes place on June 4th in Flatbush, Brooklyn, as part of the Brooklyn Museum’s Museum on Wheels initiative. Participants are invited to reflect on neighborhood, culture, identity, and belonging and celebrate the power of community and visibility. Their portraits will be displayed on the walls of the Cortelyou Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.
