The Abattoir in Anderlecht is a thriving market place in the city of Brussels. During 3 days a week, the market welcomes more than 100.000 visitors. We want to render visible all the people that make the site of the Abattoirs such a wonderful place: the visitors, the workers, the merchands, the logistics team, the volunteers, ... All the people behind the scenes of this unique, lively and sometimes fierce place, in the heart of in the city.
2020 has been a very difficult year for every one in Brussels, and in the world. A lot of people who use, pass by and render possible the livelihood of this place, are part of what we call "the 20th burrow of Brussels" - it is the (imaginary) burrow that could inhabit all of the undocumented people in the city. They often rely on informal forms of economy, that are put in jeopardy in Covid times - making them even more invisible than they often already are.
To start off the new year, we want to render all of the people that make Abattoir such a beautiful place, visible again. We want to show that, after what has been a difficult year - We are still standing. We are still here. Together.
