“A wall of portraits in the heart of Bujumbura, a message for peace in the world”
UNIS POUR LA PAIX
SEPTEMBER 2023 | 289 PORTRAITS
More than 89.3 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homes due to persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations, events seriously disturbing public order or climatic hazards and disasters.
In Burundi, a country of Africa of the Great Lakes, both a land of asylum and exile, Congolese refugees and Burundian returnees live together in the urban fabric of Bujumbura. Some have had to flee, while others return to their country to reintegrate into their community of origin.
Through these portraits, bringing together refugees, returnees and people committed to welcoming these communities in the different districts of Bujumbura, peace has taken on many faces.
By highlighting the plight of millions of refugees or displaced people around the world, this project conveys a universal message of peace, unveiled on the International Day of Peace.
