The title can be treated as a metaphor which depicts cultural differences, connected not only with our nationalities but first of all, with our personal backgrounds. However, it’s worth to remind, that despite the different ways we see, the Sun is always the same star. It shows us that regardless of the context, nationality, culture or our past, we can, and we should be connected all together in harmonically, respected, wholeness: under one Sun.
About us: Centro Local de Apoio à Integração de Migrantes (CLAIM) de Aveiro provides support in terms of legalization, family reunion, nationality, education, labor, social security, health, among other issues to migrants and refugees. Our goal is to promote the inclusion of non-European nationals in our society and communities in an active way, working directly with people of all ages and backgrounds. We want to make the process of migration humane and dignified. We think it is essential for the reception of migrants and refugees that communities are properly involved and informed of the processes taking place, not least to minimize the uncertainties that the local communities face.
Our organization is working with immigrants and refugees also through cultural events. The result of these actions is the opportunity for the people to reflect on their experiences and share them with the community. In Under One Sun project, we want to introduce to the local public beneficiaries of CLAIM. The project is fulfilling ideals of organization and its main goal is to draw the attention of local society on immigrants, their various stories and help them to integrate with the community of the city of Aveiro.
We hope that by realizing the Inside Out in Aveiro we will help immigrants with integration and inclusion into the local community. We also believe that sharing the personal experience of immigrants – men, women, children, whole families - will help local people to become more open for foreigners. Literally marking the presence of immigrants in the tissue of the city by exhibiting their images, will help locals to consider immigrants not as foreigners, but as a part of the community.
We are going to present stories of about 28 people, who we know personally as beneficents of our organization. Some of them come to Portugal from the same countries, but we know that their stories, background and personal context are different, and we want to share it with citizens of Aveiro.
Become a Group Leader by organizing an Inside Out Action in your community. Gather 50 or more participants that stand behind a message you are passionate about and paste your portraits in your community.
