*Action Inspired by the Inside Out Project*
Skateboarding enriches the lives of so many people. No matter what age, ethnicity, gender identity, and so on, everyone is a part of this community. And that is what skateboarding is, a community, a family that you are welcome to join any time you pick up your board and head out to shred. Tucson currently has no covered skatepark, and during the spring and especially the summer months, the triple-digit heat makes it hard to get out and skate. The Tucson Skatepark Alliance formed over two years ago with the intention to advocate for the development of more skateparks in Tucson, but mainly for the first-ever covered skatepark, which is greatly needed in this town. The skateboarding community is huge in Tucson, and is only growing larger each day. The Tucson Skatepark Alliance has worked with the city of Tucson to secure a location under Highway 1-10 and Cushing Street, which is naturally covered by the bridge of the highway structure. The space is not being used and would make a perfect covered skatepark. The addition of this portrait project installed and placed on the bridge wall would draw attention to a much wider audience within our community that could join in this mission to help and support with the completion of this much needed covered skatepark for the Tucson skateboarding community.
