INSIDE OUT PROJECT
EGYPT, CAIRO 2020
Our main idea is to show the ‘The Unnoticed’, people who surround us, the individuals who take care of the streets that we walk around in our neighborhoods.
‘The Unnoticed’ for us are the women and men who clean the streets, the kids that do not attend schools, and the ones who their job is to pick up the garbage off the buildings with their donkeys and horses, the homeless who live in this megacity called Cairo and also the makawgy, the traditional man who irons clothes for a living.
As a European, ex-pat, coming from abroad I have been living in Cairo for three years and I always see them and think about the tough lives that they live. I'm always showing my young son how privileged a life we live in comparison. Also, as a visual artist, I would like to give some recognition of the hard work that they do, to show our appreciation for their jobs and how essential they are to our city life.
We would like to shine a light on these overlooked people, and use the street as a Gallery. So, the sidewalk (pavement) will become our space to magnify these jobs and the people that are notably ‘invisible’.
‘The Unnoticed’ is a photography project created by artists that are from different countries like Egypt, Iraq and Spain.
We have the same interest to do a big installation in black and white images and each one of us will choose the people that are interesting to ‘unveil'.
The project will be done in mid-March 2020 giving us two months to shoot the photographs and time to see where we will paste the photos
We are really happy and excited to do the ‘The UnNoticed’ project within the art world idea of JR.
We are considering to do at least 100 images, which means each one us; Karim Shokair, Abbas Noori and Ruth Zaragoza will photograph approximately 30-40 portraits each. I hope that you consider doing this project in Egypt. It is a very good place to create this art project ‘Inside Out’ because the society in Cairo has always been relevant in the Middle East and Arab world as well as having a vibrant culture and art background.
Become a Group Leader by organizing an Inside Out Action in your community. Gather 50 or more participants that stand behind a message you are passionate about and paste your portraits in your community.
