Our city hopes to end homlessness by 2019. The vision is that everyone has a home. Rates of homelessness has been rising since our city has made this announcement. The homeless are not being asked what is needed to help them. Their opinion is not being heard. When I did my first Inside Out Project it opened may eyes in our city. People started to take notice of those that are struggling in the city. I had provided a platform on my facebook page where I featured the photos and stories of the less fortunate in the city. They were given a voice. Every since this has happened there were calls to action put out by everyday people wanting to help. Every 3 months there is a pop-store set up by volunteers that provides, clothing, bedding, hygiene products and food to those that need it most. This is run strictly by volunteers. There are care packages made by students in schools and taken to those that need them. Christmas care packages with little Christmas presents, homemade cards, socks, mittens and food are being passed out during the holidays. There are people that are always asking how they can help. I would like to do another Inside Out Project this time bigger and more powerful to make sure that these peoples' voices are heard and their portraits seen. The 2019 deadline is fast approaching and the homeless are not seeing much change. This initiative was started 10 years ago and they people that it is supposed to help are not seeing the help they need.
Become a Group Leader by organizing an Inside Out Action in your community. Gather 50 or more participants that stand behind a message you are passionate about and paste your portraits in your community.
