My idea is to take portrait of Kiryat Tivon's citizens- and to place them near Basmat Tivon's citizens portraits.
Those two small towns, located near to each other and even connected in some points, are almost 100% jewish and almost 100% muslim towns. Compare to other places in Israel, the situation between the jewish and muslim communities are great. People from both towns doing their daily-life arrangements in both towns and it's not weird to see women with burkas in Kiryat Tivon's streets.
However, its still Israel. The relationship is complex. Sometimes a wave of burglaries is taking place in Kiryat Tivon, which in this case, the finger is always directed at the residents of Basmat Tivon, and the residents of Kiryat Tivon can't really walk peacefully in the inner parts of Basmat Tivon without being shout, and the atmosphere is scary.
Most of the people can't speak to other's language- Arabic or Hebrew.
The situation is still very far from been perfect or even good enough. There is so much to do, and I think the idea of InsideOut project is perfect for the festival and it's meaning and values.
Sheikh Abriek Festival happens in Kiryat Tivon on the first weekend before Passover (jewish holiday). Its a community festival- done by the community- for the community. Last year was the first year of the festival, which considered by many as great success. The next festival will happen on April 6-8.
From the festival website:
"It is an open and free festival that seeks to fulfill the cultural wishes of individuals and groups and to connect them to community forces. In short, everyone does what they want, helping others and creating new community connections. The Sheikh Abrik Festival was held by citizens and for citizens. "
Become a Group Leader by organizing an Inside Out Action in your community. Gather 50 or more participants that stand behind a message you are passionate about and paste your portraits in your community.
