After dealing with some unfortunate racist graffiti and spoken words at our school, our students are coming together to celebrate our differences and celebrate who we are and where we come from. We are coming together as one to stand for who we are and show that we do not tolerate any kind of hate towards one another at our school.
We invite everyone who has seen the installation to not only come and look, but to engage in a meaningful conversation with a child or adult about how important it is to respect and celebrate difference in our community, and in our schools. With this project we hope that students will find a voice to defend their friends, neighbors, peers, and strangers against harmful comments, and destructive behavior. We want to empower kids to stand up for something that they believe in, and whatever that may be - say it in a BIG way. That is what this project means to us. We believe in the staff and students at the Ottoson, we KNOW how special it is as a place of learning, and we need to equip our students with the necessary tools to help them feel included to and take responsibility for their part in this environment. We needed to turn the Ottoson Inside Out to make this point heard. With your help, we will!
