To take a stand against bullying and to make peoples day better. I am a artist in New York City who is running a Summer Art Institute for a local non for profit.
I recently showed my middle school students JR's TED talk and gave them the challenge of really thinking about how art can change the world and they loved it!
I am working on being able to do a "Community Based Project" with the kids at the end of the summer (early/mid August) and would love to be able to collaborate and have them do posters or something as part of this community project.
Many of these kids live in hard situations and feel the every day pressures of housing problems, getting into good high schools, passing state testing, peer pressure and even knowing where their next meal is coming from.
I'd love to do something on the schools property or on the outside of the school building where we can evoke happiness, fun, silliness and things that will be humor, joy and hope into what is often a darker place.
