My name is Jorge Giancarlo, an artist. The Mazahua People of the Deer project is being developed in the indigenous community of Crescencio Morales in the municipality of Zitácuaro, Michoacán, Mexico. I am creating a series of portraits of the preservers of tradition, which I hope will be passed on to new generations. Crescencio is one of the first self-governing communities, with a long tradition of artisanal textile production and preservation of traditional cuisine. Many speakers of their language continue to speak their traditional clothing, and they regularly wear their traditional clothing.
