On April 23, 2024, Strasbourg will be the first French city to be awarded the title of UNESCO World Book Capital. READ OUR WORLD is the ambitious program, which should allow everyone, and especially the youngest, to experience the pleasure of reading.
Through the INSIDE OUT initiative, which will be deployed throughout the territory, Strasbourg residents are invited to get involved. By sharing their portrait with their favorite book, the one that left its mark on them, they affirm loud and clear that the latter is an open door to the world, imaginations and ideas. The book is a fabulous vector of emancipation, freedom, peace and inclusion, whatever our age or culture. Let us proudly contribute to the momentum of this nomination!
This call for citizen participation represents a unique opportunity to live a collective artistic experience. With the support of the city's media libraries and the Strasbourg Eurométropole, emblematic places dedicated to books and reading, the portraits displayed in public spaces will help create spaces for dialogue and sharing. They will inaugurate in April 2024, the year of World Book Capital, as a message of welcome to our city to arouse curiosity, stimulate reflection and encourage debate on the role of reading in our lives.
A true work of street art, this exhibition of faces will offer everyone the opportunity to tell their story and reflect the diversity and richness of a community of readers united by the trait of imagination. This action aims to create connections between residents, in order to celebrate together the consecration of a common heritage.
