Indigenize Your Eyes is a participatory photography project intended to raise awareness of the history and current status of American Indians in Boulder. This project gives voice and empowering storytelling skills to local Native Americans in our community, and drew attention to our 2018 Indigenous Peoples Day in October.
In July, 2018 we held a 3-day Photography Camp for native youth, led by notable indigenous photographer Josue Rivas. Our students were then mentored throughout the summer by volunteer professional photographers, and we invited our American Indian community to have their portraits taken by our students. The project culminated in a series of photo exhibits of the students' work launched prior to Indigenous Peoples Day and exhibited in a variety of locations throughout Boulder. The portraits made for this Inside Out Group project were taken BY Native American students OF our indigenous community.
Become a Group Leader by organizing an Inside Out Action in your community. Gather 50 or more participants that stand behind a message you are passionate about and paste your portraits in your community.
