This is a pasting of portraits of children and young adults that are homeless in Strasbourg. The building pasted on is an international shelter for students.
Mischievous, serious, happy or dubious. Who are they?
They all live in Strasbourg, go to school, play, try to live their children’s lives.A children’s life that has been troubled, for they were forced to flee their homes in Chechnya, Kosovo, Armenia, Georgia… They finally landed in France where they hope to be protected. Because they stroll about our city, they know it better than most of us. They have all slept in the street, some of them for months. Others have been separated from one of their parent who was confined in a retention center.
Today about 15 children sleep Place de la République, in the Contades park or in the emergency room at hospital. This event enables us to cross their path, and doing this, to recognize their existence among us. This place is symbolic, as the Seegmuller tower is meant to become an international university hall of residence. Through their faces these children tell us they are children and not just figures to be dealt with or flows to be mastered.
These children are just like any other children : they represent our future.
