Statement: “Using faces to remember places, we are bringing life and smiles back to Fietas! We believe in the importance of remembering and celebrating our history and heritage. Apartheid might have destroyed the neighbourhood but its spirit and legacy lives on.” Fietas meant and continues to mean so much to so many and so this group action seeks to honour that. Pasted on the last remaining original building of the infamous 14th Street, a building that now serves as the only Fietas museum in existence, we have united to take ownership of our own lost history and reclaim its narrative. One that was so pivotal to the shaping of the historic and socio-cultural fabric of Johannesburg and South Africa.
