Our Project got hit and stopped by the outbreak of an already existing war. People of Spirituality has been the journey Chloe and I started in search of spirituality, in a land where the search and the preservation of the sacred in each one’s life is an imperative more than ever.
People of Spirituality is the story of 25 artists that we met along our journey, whose world ties and identities vary: Israelis, Palestinians, immigrants, refugees, LGBTQ+, across all ages. Some of them, we met by chance through a spontaneous, yet powerful exchange. Individuals we met casually on the streets, in our art studio or people we have been interacting with, since we moved to this land. The participants of this project have been chosen intuitively. For instance, some interactions emerged from a mere gesture or a meeting of eyes- often completely unexpected. People of Spirituality shared their deepest and purest thoughts and feelings about what makes us move in life, how we apply spirituality in our everyday challenges and lives, where we get the strength to keep going, what limits us in life and how we are in relations to others.
An overarching theme of this project is seeing ourselves through the other. How we learn to give and receive love and how through each one’s spirituality we reflect our needs, because we are social creatures. Thus, this spiritual research was the preamble of a conversation about creation, empowerment and self-determination through simple gestures, stories of passion, transformation, belief in change, in compassion and in our inner strength and ability to restore and rephrase all the time. All this through the power of art, viewed through spiritual lens.
