2016 marks the 50th anniversary of Barbados' independence from Great Britain.
I am an independent photographer and education activist based in London and with family in the Caribbean.
In December 2015, I spent a week taking photographs in Barbados for a group action I call '50 words for Barbados 50'.
I travelled to all parts of the island photographing children, families and a few adults. I went to schools, homes, markets and beaches - anywhere that people were happy to participate.
I asked each of them to chose a word that they thought represented themselves, their country or Barbados' independence. They then wrote that word on a board and posed with it for the photograph.
The group action I plan is to display these posters in London, England and Bridgetown, Barbados to represent these children, families and adults in the ways they themselves chose.
I have written permission from an adult carer for each image.
I have also got an agreement in principle for the images to be legally displayed in temporary positions outside the Museum of London in July 2016 and the Museum of Barbados in November 2016 - the actual month of this year long anniversary.
