8 Portraits - June 2014

Statement

THE WALK TO BE FREE
These eight portraits represent all young women (ca. 28) behind prison walls.
With masks they protect themselves from the prejudice of society.
The participants are 17-24 years old.

Asked the following question: When released from prison, a fairy godmother awaits at the gate and grants you ONE WISH. What will it be?
Their answers were:

An apprenticeship.
Appreciate the little things in life.
Keep in touch with the important people in my life.
A high school diploma.
That someone important to me, stands by my side.
Hope for my daughter.
No prejudice.

The day, Friday June 13, the images are revealed to the public, four of the eight participants will have achieved their secondary school diploma.
During the next month six of the eight young women will have been released from prison.

I believe, I hope, and I pray every day, because I want to be free and live my life!
