My name is Paolo Roca Rey. I live in a rich neighborhood in the city center of Rome, where next to fancy cafes and expensive shops a number of immigrants earn their living in the street, swiping leaves, selling socks or simply begging.
Many of the inhabitants of the area ignore them and act like they didn’t exist, even in the very moment in which they are spoken to. That’s unacceptable, I wish I could at least make it a bit harder for them to do so and I believe that pasting the faces of those workers around could be a nice statement of their existence and their belonging to the neighborhood.
In fact, I believe this would – at least for few days – invert the usual dynamic: instead of being ignored and neglected, they would become a center of attention, the stars of the neighborhood, from someone to avoid to something you should go and check out. The very same people that don’t even look at them now, would find themselves finally having to stare at their faces.
I’ve already asked some of the workers their opinions about the Action and they generally appreciate it and say they would like to be a part of it.
Thank you so much for the opportunity you offer and for the inspiration you represent.
